Vetta Collection - premium collection within Istockphoto library (the name means “peak” in Italian). Vetta was announced in June 2009 and by Dec 2009 amassed around 45000 photos and vectors. Vetta images are sold for $20-70 (see below) and flat price of $30 for vectors.

Vetta images will appear in regular search results and can be identified by either gold camera icon (photos) or gold pen tip (vectors)

Tineye.com – is a reverse image search engine developed and offered by Idée, Inc., a company based in Toronto, Canada. The use of the Web application is free of charge for customers. According to the company, TinEye is the first web-based image search engine to use image identification technology. Currently, the technology is an Open beta release. Idée launched the service on May 6, 2008.

An image which a user uploads to the Web applicationsearch engine or provides a URL with an image will be looked up for other usage in the internet including their time of appearance and including modified images based upon that image.

As of February 2010, TinEye claims to have indexed 1,276,899,174 images Tineye.com have add-ons for all main browsers which simplifies the search.

iStockalypse - an official multi-day iStockphoto event. Artists and photographers from the international iStock community come together to collaborate, share knowledge, and exchange tricks of the stock photography trade. Istockphoto would usually provide models and arrange a suitable locations for photo shoots.

Ranking – ranking used by Fotolia to distinguish contributors by their overall sales. It also determines the royalty percentage payable to photographers and starting from Emerald level, image prices.Current (Dec 2009) ranking levels are listed below:

Based on their ranking, photographers are entitled to the following contributors royalties and image prices:

Subscription sales are counted as 0.25 of traditional credit sales, i.e. 4 subscription sales will count as one credit sale towards your ranking.

Currently (Dec 2009) Yuri Arcurs is the only Rubis contributor (above 250000 sales), and Andres Rodriguez is the only Sapphire (above 100000 sales).

In Dec 2009, Istock announced changes to canister levels effective Feb 24 2010:

Base: 1 – 499
Bronze: 500 – 4,999
Silver: 5,000 – 19,999
Gold: 20,000 – 49,999
Diamond: 50,000 – 399,999
Black Diamond: 400,000 +

Once changes take effect, current artists will be grandfathered into their existing levels: no contributor will drop a level.

Canister levels for non-exclusive contributors have little importance (apart from self-esteem), but for exclusives they determine royalty payout percentage (can be up to 40% compared to 20% for non-exclusives)

Dollar Bin – collection within Istockphoto library, which was originally created to promote slow-moving images. They were all priced at $1 (hence the name).

However, in Dec 2008 Istockphoto announced changes to Dollar Bin concept. Standard $1 price was revoked, and traditional size-based pricing introduced (see price table below). New Dollar Bin images are still priced lower than main collection.

Delayed earning – Shutterstock wiki

Delayed earnings – term used by Shuttestock to describe earnings from high-risk activities, such as referrals. These payments will be withheld, and once qualifying criteria is met, (3-month for new referrals from some countries) will be released to user account and reported in this section. Here is official info from Shutterstock:

Shutterstock is dedicated to defending our submitters and fighting fraud. To that end, we monitor high risk activities, such as referrals, and maintain a three month probationary period on earnings accrued from these activities.

It also used in cases when Shutterstock successfully recovered money from previously illegally or incorrectly licenced images. Delayed earnings in this context are rare occurence.

Creative Network - feature at Istockphoto within member profiles, which allows members to add fellow contributors to their Creative Network.

It is mainly used as an address book for easier communication. Here is official info from Istockphoto:

The Creative Network is a way for you to keep your friends and colleagues on iStockphoto handy and make communication among members easier. Please be judicious in your use of the mass-mailing features of the Creative Network, and avoid excessive sitemailing and frivolous messages. In cases when you find that a user on your CN is abusing the service or using it in annoying ways, please try to contact the user directly to resolve the matter, before escalating the issue to the Site Director. Many disputes or problems can be solved interpersonally and do not need to be aggravated by the involvement of Administration.

You can add any Istockphoto member to your Creative network from their profile page (look for “Add to My Network” link).
